At Willow Grove Pre-School we believe that each child is a special individual whose development is uniquely his or her own. Our goal is to help children develop at their own rate in a creative, loving, Christian environment. We want to make the first school experience a happy one where the child feels appreciated and loved for the individual he or she is.

PROGRAM

The daily program at Willow Grove Pre-School is designed to meet the varying needs of the children, giving each the freedom to explore and discover within an overall structure. The curriculum encourages the children to learn new approaches to problem solving, to expand his or her creativity in art, language and music and to become aware of his or her place in God’s world.Activities are planned so that readiness skills are integrated into the program in a non-pressured manner. A typical day would include free play with a creative art activity, class discussion time, snack, music, chapel (with periodic visits by the Willow Grove pastor), large muscle play (in a large, multipurpose room or in the outdoor playground) and story time. Trips away from the Pre- School are organized when they enhance the planned curriculum. While the curriculum is carefully planned, the daily activities are scheduled to meet the children’s needs rather than, the other way around, by inflexibly following a set schedule.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Because schooling is only one aspect of a child’s growing up, we encourage a close rapport between family and school to ensure the best experience for the child. Parents or guardians are welcome at the Pre-School either as observers or participants.

We hope that parents will drop by at any time to quietly observe the classroom activities. If you would like to participate in an activity, we request that a teacher be informed beforehand.

A “Back-to-School” night is held in the fall to acquaint parents with the Pre-School and its goals and to discuss your concerns. Regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences are held in the late winter. However, the teachers and director are available for a conference at any convenient time during the school year.
